After watching Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel’s pro-day workout Thursday, along with head coach Mike Zimmer and general manager Rick Spielman, Minnesota Vikings offensive coordinator Norv Turner had some very positive things to say about Manziel.
In an interview with the Houston Chronicle, Turner raved about Manziel’s passing accuracy.
“He was amazingly accurate,” Turner said. “He showed all the things he needed to show. People who’ve watched a lot of tape on him are pretty familiar with what he can do. It’s good to see a guy in person, though.”
Manziel reportedly completed 61 of 64 attempts.
Turner also referred to Manziel as a “complete player,” according to the Cleveland Plain Dealer.
“Here’s the deal: You only get so many opportunities to evaluate a player, and to not use every single one of them makes no sense to me,” Turner said. “We’re going to exhaust every opportunity to evaluate a player. You get an opportunity to meet with a guy, and who knows what will come out of that? It might be something good . . . If you’re allowed to do these things, it makes sense to do them.”
Pro Football Talk’s Mike Florio points out that Turner has also spoken highly about pro-day workouts of Louisville quarterback Teddy Bridgewater and Fresno State quarterback Derek Carr.
Spielman, Zimmer and Turner were scheduled to eat dinner with Manziel on Thursday night, and a private workout with the potential top 10 pick is likely coming in the near future, according to the Pioneer Press.
There’s no question the world seems to be on Manziel’s side, but be warned – pro days are completely worthless. That’s what Grantland’s Bill Barnwell says, anyway.
