Abdullah was cut by the Lions earlier this week to make room for wide receiver Bruce Ellington, whom they claimed off waivers to help replace Golden Tate, who they traded to the Eagles last week.
Abdullah was active for only three games with the Lions this season and barely played.
The former second-round pick is still only 25 years old, Abdullah has 1,251 career rushing yards and six touchdowns along with 57 receptions for 420 yards.
It’s unclear if or how Minnesota will use him, but Dalvin Cook and Latavius Murray remain the top two running backs on the roster.
