Minnesota Wild coach Mike Yeo today talked to the media after the club sent prized rookies Mikael Granlund and Jason Zucker down to Houston in exchange for veterans Jake Dowell and Stephane Veilleux.
Yeo said the move wasn’t made out of desperation, but necessity.
“If something’s not working, you give those guys the opportunity to respond,” Yeo said. “If it doesn’t change, then you have to look to doing it a different way.”
As for the Wild losing five straight at home, and being stuck in the 7th spot in the Western Conference standings, Yeo said the road to playoffs isn’t supposed to be easy:
“The bottom line is that our group has worked very hard,” Yeo said. “We have a great opportunity.
“It’s supposed to be hard. That’s part of the battle.”
