There are many reasons the 1991 World Series is still thought to be one of the greatest ever played.
There were 5 one-run games, 3 extra-inning games, a dramatic Game 6 walk-off home run, and 25-years ago today the greatest pitching performance ever during a Game 7 of a World Series.
The Twins sent St. Paul native Jack Morris to the mound against Atlanta’s John Smoltz.
There was definitely some magic left in the Minnesota air as the 36-year-old Morris toed the rubber. He scattered 7 hits, struck out 8 Braves hitters and even dodged a couple of bullets on his way to the MVP performance.
Here are some of the highlights from Morris’ big night:
Morris sent the Braves away scoreless one more time in the top of the 10th, making the way for the Twins to try to win it on a walk-off for the second straight night.
The bases were loaded with one out. Then Twins manager Tom Kelly sent pinch hitter Gene Larkin to the plate. The rest, as they say, is history.
