Victor Rask isn’t exactly off to the greatest start since joining the Minnesota Wild in the Nino Niederreiter trade with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The 25-year-old center has just one goal and one assist in six games and he whiffed on a golden opportunity to get the Wild off to a good start in a shootout against the Buffalo Sabres on Tuesday night.
Filling in for Wild shootout specialist Mikko Koivu, who went down with a lower-body injury, Rask skated towards the goal and lost the puck, never getting a shot off.

It proved to be a critical error as Buffalo scored the only goal of the shootout to secure a 5-4 win. But as ugly as it was it’s far from the worst shootout blunder in Wild history.
Remember Devin Setoguchi’s epic fall against the Montreal Canadiens in 2012?
Rask fumbled the puck on the opening shootout attempt whereas Setoguchi’s ended the game. Had he scored the Wild would’ve forced another round in the shootout.
As the announcer in the Setoguchi video said: “The absolute worst thing about this is there’s video tape.”
There’s no way Rask’s fail lives forever like Setoguchi’s will, but a Reddit thread titled “I wonder how Victor Rask is doing…. oh…. Nevermind” certainly will.
Note: Niederreiter has five goals and one assists and is a plus-four in seven games with the Hurricanes.
