The University of Minnesota already had a strong group of wide receivers, but it just got a little bit better, and bigger, with former University of Southern California receiver Randal Grimes transferring to the Gophers.

Grimes caught two passes for 17 yards as a true freshman at USC in 2017 and then redshirted 2018 before making the decision to transfer. Per NCAA transfer rules, Grimes will sit out the 2019 season and then have two years of eligibility remaining.
He’s 6-foot-4, 205 pounds and was rated as a 4-star recruit in 2017 by 247 Sports and Rivals, and a 3-star recruit by ESPN.
Grimes was heralded for being a freak athlete at his Las Vegas-area high school. 247 Sports ranked him the 11th-best athlete in the country in the Class of 2017, which garnered him offers from USC, Nebraska, California, Oregon, Utah, Washington State, BYU and Tennessee, among others.
Grimes will be eligible to play for the Gophers in 2020, which might be perfect considering All-Big Ten receiver Tyler Johnson is set to graduate after the 2019 season. Grimes will be able to join the fold when up-and-coming receivers Rashad Bateman and Chris Autman-Bell are juniors.
