Gophers coach Jerry Kill has not returned to work since suffering another seizure on Saturday.
Defensive coordinator Tracy Claeys informed Big Ten media members during a conference call on Tuesday that Kill is still at home recovering from the seizure that forced him to miss Minnesota’s game at Michigan on Saturday.
“He’s doing good, continuing to get the rest he needs and work with his doctors to do the best they can to get the situation under control with his medicine, which they still believe they can do,’’ Claeys said, as reported by the Star Tribune.
When will Kill get back to work?
“We’ll just see how it goes,’’ Claeys added, according to the Pioneer Press. “It’s all around when his doctors appointments are, that kind of stuff. It’s all about getting rest, his medication…so there’s no hurry to get back.’’
Kill suffered a seizure Saturday morning and spent Saturday at home resting rather than coaching the Gophers, who lost 41-13 to the Wolverines.
Meanwhile, University of Minnesota president Eric Kaler renewed his support for Kill on Tuesday.
“Where we are right now is hoping for and planning on Jerry getting better and being able to fulfill all of his dutites,” Kaler said in a phone call to the Associated Press. “We’re not looking at a Plan B. We’re looking at Jerry Kill being our head football coach. He’s got a great, great staff. It’s really just an unbelieveable team, and when he’s not able to be there because of a seizure, they have a terrific plan and they execute on that. So that’s where we are.”
Kaler added that keeping Kill as the head coach is “the right thing to do.”
The Gophers won’t hold another press conference for Kill until Tuesday, Oct. 15. That’s next week to preview Minnesota’s Big Ten game against Northwestern.
