The Gophers women’s hockey team put the finishing touches on their perfect Western Collegiate Hockey Association season Saturday with a 3-0 victory over St. Cloud State at Ridder Arena, The Pioneer Press reports.
The victory not only boosted the Gophers’ record to 34-0 (28-0 in the WCHA), it also helped the team become the first program in NCAA history to finish the season undefeated.
The win also helped the team notch its 42nd consecutive victory.
Becky Kortum and Milica McMillen each scored goals, and goalie Noora Raty had 19 saves. Raty also tied an NCAA record with the 39th shutout.
The Gophers begin NCAA playoff action next Friday at home, and will host either St. Cloud State or Bemidji State pending the outcome of Bemidji State’s game at Wisconsin Saturday.
