Liam Hendriks has great timing. Nobody had heard his name until last night when rookie Andrew Albers was closing in on a complete game, and Dick Bremer announced on FOX Sports North that Hendriks was the last Twin to throw a shutout.
Hendriks will be talked about a little more now that the Twins plan to recall him for a spot start, according to the Pioneer Press.
The start will come during on the back end of Friday’s double-header against the White Sox in Chicago.
After the game he’ll be sent back down to Triple-A Rochester. Major League Baseball allows teams a “26th man” for double-headers.
The right-hander’s last start in the big leagues came back in April. He’s been at Triple-A Rochester ever since.
Note: Triple-A reliever Tim Wood will soon go through season-ending shoulder surgery.
