The Minnesota Twins will try to snap their six-game losing streak Saturday afternoon in Toronto against Blue Jays starting pitcher R.A. Dickey, the 2012 Cy Young Award winner. Game time is 12:07 p.m. CT.
Dickey struggled early this season but the knuckleballer has been hot of late. He’s won his last three decisions to even his season record at 8-8. His ERA is still high at 4.59, and he has allowed at least six runs in six starts this season.
Dickey will face Twins starter Mike Pelfrey, who was reinstated from the disabled list on Friday. Pelfrey’s been out battling a back strain. He allowed two runs on two hits over six innings in his one rehab start with Class A Cedar Rapids.
The Twins losing streak reached six Friday night when they were shutout by Toronto 4-0 in game one of the weekend series.
The Star Tribune reports that Twins Manager Ron Gardenhire told his team to lighten up.
“I told the boys it is baseball,” Gardenhire told the paper. “We’re making it like a job right now. It’s got to be baseball. That’s the message to the team tonight. We have to get back to relaxing and have some guys smile. There’s too much tension.”
Blue Jays starter Mark Buehrle, who dominated the Twins when he was with the White Sox, pitched seven scoreless innings Friday night. The left-hander allowed six hits, didn’t walk a batter, and struck out five.
