The Minnesota Twins have traded first baseman/designated hitter Kendrys Morales to the Seattle Mariners, ending a six-week stint in Minnesota.
Morales sat out the first two months of the season and signed a one-year $7.5 million deal in June.
He had a great first week with the Twins, but the 31-year-old wasn’t what the team had hoped for.
Hard Ball Talk notes that Morales has hit just .209 with one homer and a .524 OPS in 33 games since that first week. So the Twins traded him back to the Mariners for 24-year-old relief pitcher Stephen Pryor.
The hard-throwing Pryor has a 2.81 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 32 innings as a big leaguer, but he has struggled since returning from an injury last year.
He underwent surgery to repair a torn right latissimus dorsi muscle in August.
Pryor has made just one appearance for the Mariners this season and it was against the Twins. He has a 4.67 ERA in 31 innings so far at Triple-A Tacoma.
According to The Star Tribune, Pryor will report to the Twins’ Triple-A affiliate this week.
The Mariners are hoping Morales can add some pop to their lineup. According to the Bleacher Report, Morales hit 23 home runs in Seattle last year, but he didn’t re-sign and was hoping for a long-term contract. That didn’t happen.
Instead, he signed the one-year deal with the Twins, who at the time were hoping he could help them make a push for the playoffs.

Moving Morales will allow the Twins to give opportunities to Chris Parmelee, Chris Colabello and maybe recall Josmil Pinto, who was recently sent back to Triple-A.
