Jamey Carroll will play for a contender the rest of the season.
Yahoo! Sports reports the Twins have traded Carroll to the Kansas City Royals for a player to be named later or cash.
The Royals have won 18 of 23 games since the All-Star break and are now just 4 1/2 games out of the Wild Card race. They’re 7 1/2 games behind the Tigers in the Central division.
Carroll singled and scored a run in the Twins’ 5-2 win over the White Sox on Sunday.
The 39-year old veteran infielder is hitting .230 on the season.
His finest moment of the season came last week against the Royals, when he pitched a shutout inning of relief.
