Even in the minor leagues, the unwritten rules of baseball that prohibit players from having fun exist, and Twins top prospect Royce Lewis got a taste of it Thursday night.
In the fifth inning, Lewis, the No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, launched a double off the left-center field wall and when strolling into second base he got down and did three pushups.
Why the pushups?
While the announcer thought Lewis was “hot doggin’ it,” the Fort Myers Miracle tweeted that Lewis was punishing himself for not hitting it over the fence for a home run. He was doing pushups because, you know, pushups make you stronger and might help get the ball over the wall the next time.
Of course, the pitcher was apparently offended and threw a heater behind Lewis in his next at-bat.

The pitcher, manager and shortstop from Bradenton were all ejected as a result, and Lewis and the Miracle went on to win 13-7.
Lewis is off to a slow start at Class A Fort Myers, slashing .233/.310/.320 with no homers, nine doubles, two triples and 10 RBI in 37 games.
Because Lewis is a high-level prospect, the pushups ordeal took the spotlight off of fellow Twins minor leaguer Lewin Diaz, who hit three homers in the game.
