On the anniversary of his death, the Minnesota Twins announced Friday that they will celebrate “Prince Night” at Target Field during their June 16 game against the Cleveland Indians.
It’ll be all Prince music during the game and the first 10,000 fans will get a “Purple Rain” umbrella. Twins players will wear a Prince T-shirt during pregame warmups before they’re auctioned off with all the proceeds benefitting Achieve Minneapolis, which provides music grants for Minneapolis Public Schools.
“All of us in the Twins organization were deeply saddened by the loss of the late Minneapolis icon Prince,” Twins President Dave St. Peter said in a statement. “Along with our fans, we look forward to celebrating the legacy of a man who brought an international spotlight to our great city.”
The night will wrap up with a Prince-themed fireworks show after the game.
The ballpark will be lit purple during this weekend’s series against the Detroit Tigers starting Friday night.
