Thursday’s series opener in Detroit between the Twins and Tigers has been postponed.
News of the postponement was reported just after 3 p.m., approximately three hours before left-hander Matthew Boyd was scheduled to throw the first pitch against the AL Central-leading Twins.
“I know we’re starting to see things we’ve never seen before, and I think that’s a good thing,” Twins manager Rocco Baldelli said in a statement.
“I think we’re learning a lot about the power and influence that we have and we obviously saw that in the NBA. We saw it in Major League Baseball today so we’re going to continue to watch and continue to converse and discuss everything related to what’s going on because we do have that influence.”
The NBA, WNBA, and NHL also postponed games Thursday, while all other MLB games scheduled to start Thursday night have also been postponed in wake of the police shooting of a Black man in Kenosha, Wisconsin, earlier this week.
