MINNEAPOLIS — The Twins played the home run card Thursday at Target Field, hitting four long balls en route to a 8-4 win over the Chicago White Sox, sweeping their three-game series.
Oswaldo Arcia, Brian Dozier, Clete Thomas and Eduardo Escobar each hit one out. Dozier’s blast was a two-run homer. In Wednesday night’s game, he hit a three-run blast off of Sox ace Chris Sale.
Justin Morneau also contributed a two-run, bases loaded double, as he increased his RBI total to 42, tops on the team.
Scott Diamond pitched five-plus innings to improve his record to 5-6 on the year. John Danks (1-4) took the loss for Chicago.
“I’m not closing out the game the way I should,” Diamond said of his start to the Pioneer Press. “I feel like I’m good through the first couple innings. Then there’s a small hiccup, and things kind of snowball a little bit.”
Things got a little hairy in the ninth, and if one run would have scored, Ron Gardenhire probably would have called on Glen Perkins. Good thing he didn’t have to — it would have been a third straight game with an appearance from the left-handed closer.
Minnesota (33-36) now heads to Cleveland for a three-game weekend series. The mini-road trip ends in Miami Wednesday after a two-game series with the Marlins.
