The Twins snapped their three-game losing streak with a 2-1 win over the Detroit Tigers on Friday night.
Glenn Perkins struck out Raji Davis with the tying run on second base and two out to pick his ninth save, of the season.
Phil Hughes was outstanding again for Minnesota, he out pitched Detroit’s Justin Verlander. Hughes scattered eight hits over seven innings and struck out three. He did not give up a run.
Hughes was attacking the strike zone. The Star Tribune reports he threw 17 first pitch strikes to the 24 batters he faced.
After a perfect eighth from Casey Fien, it came down to Perkins in the ninth.
Austin Jackson led the ninth inning off with a double. Perkins bounced back to strike out Nick Castellanos. Alex Avila doubled off of Jason Kubel’s glove in left field to score Jackson and make it a one-run game. Perkins bounced back to strike out Davis and end the game.
Jason Kubel may have just let Ilya Bryzgalov off the hook for worst gaffe in the late-going for tonight.

The game was scoreless into the seventh inning when Kurt Suzuki delivered a clutch bases-loaded two-out hit to drive in Chris Parmelee and Danny Santana.

Suzuki has been one of the few Twins coming through with timely hits. He is now 7 for 17 with two outs and runners in scoring position.
There wasn’t a lot of offense from the Twins. Brian Dozier reached base four times, he was 2 for 3 with two walks. Parmelee, in his first Major League game of the season and Suzuki also had two hits.
The Twins and Detroit continue their series on Saturday afternoon.
