Update: Willians Astudillo to the minors
The Star Tribune’s Phil Miller is reporting that Willians Astudillo has been optioned to Triple-A Rochester, with a corresponding roster move expected to be announced Saturday.
It’s likely that the Twins will call up a reliever from the minors to help add depth to what’s currently a struggling, seven-man bullpen.
Astudillo went 0-for-4 and had his first career two-strikeout game Friday night, and has hit .190 (12-for-63) in 17 games since being activated from the injured list May 12.
Game recap
It took 28 pitches to earn the save, but Blake Parker got the job done to finish off a 6-3 Twins win over the Tigers Friday night in Detroit.
Minnesota got home runs from Mitch Garver, C.J. Cron and Nelson Cruz, with Cruz’s homer in the eighth inning breaking a 3-3 tie and giving the Twins a 4-3 lead.
Cron’s homer – his 14th of the season – tied the game 3-3 in the sixth inning and completed what will go down as a special night for the Cron family as C.J.’s younger brother, Kevin Cron, hit his first career homer with the Diamondbacks.
The Twins added a second run in the eighth on an RBI single by Marwin Gonzalez and one more in the ninth on a run-scoring single by Garver, which was fueled by Byron Buxton stretching a single into a double to lead off the inning.
The Twins pounded out 14 hits on the night, led by four from Gonzalez, three for Garver and two apiece for Buxton and Jorge Polanco.
Minnesota (42-20) has 100 games to go, and if they keep winning at the same clip they’ll finish with 109 or 110 wins.
