The Twins have added another arm to the bullpen.
MLB.com reports Minnesota has signed former Indians reliever Rafael Perez to a minor league deal. Perez is coming off shoulder surgery in September and threw just 7 2/3 innings in 2012.
Before the shoulder injury, Perez, 30, was one of the better left-handed setup men in the American League. In 329 innings, he has a career 3.64 ERA with 268 strikeouts. Star Tribune reporter La Velle E. Neal III sees Perez in a similar role if he makes the team, setting up closer Glen Perkins.
Manager Ron Gardenhire calls Perez “a quality pitcher and a big league guy.”
