The Minnesota Twins were punchless at the plate on Wednesday night as Tarik Skubal shut down the Minnesota lineup to lead the Detroit Tigers to a 5-0 victory.
Skubal threw seven shutout innings while striking out six batters, but the bigger story was the futility of the Twins’ lineup.
Minnesota was shorthanded with Carlos Correa (COVID) and Byron Buxton (scheduled off day) out of the lineup and could only muster two hits and a walk against the Tigers.
The Twins’ scoreless streak was an even bigger concern as they have not scored since Max Kepler’s two-RBI single in the seventh inning of Tuesday afternoon’s win in Detroit.
After being shutout in the nightcap of the doubleheader, the Twins have gone 20 innings without scoring a run.
The Tigers had no such issues, tagging Bailey Ober for five runs over six innings. Jonathan Schoop and Harold Castro drove in two runs each to hand Minnesota its sixth loss in the past eight games.
Minnesota will look to get on the board in the series finale on Thursday afternoon when Chris Archer takes the mound against Alex Faedo.
