The 2013 season has come to an end for Joe Mauer.
The Twins catcher suffered a concussion in August 19 when a foul-tip rocked his facemask in a game against the Mets.
La Velle Neal III of the Star Tribune reports that Mauer is still suffering from concussion symptoms. General manager Terry Ryan tells the newspaper that Mauer is bothered by light and noise.
“It’s frustrating that I’m not on the field and not able to play the game that I love,” Mauer said. “But I have to take care of this and make sure that I’m healthy and ready to go next year.”
“I just want to make sure everybody knows I’ve had some good days in a row and I shouldn’t have any problems lingering. I’m just going to try to keep getting better,” he added.
In 113 games this season, Mauer batted .324 with 11 home runs, 35 doubles and 47 runs batted in. Mauer still leads the team in doubles despite not playing in over a month.
