Another impressive victory for the Twins on the road as they rallied from a 3-0 deficit and beat the Angels comfortably, 8-3, Tuesday night in Anaheim.
Marwin Gonzalez keyed the comeback with a two-run homer in the sixth inning to make it a 3-3 game, and Minnesota erupted for four more runs in the seventh and another in the eighth on the first career big-league homer for Luis Arraez.
The seventh inning featured an RBI single by Jorge Polanco, an RBI ground-rule double by Gonzalez and a two-run single off the bat of Eddie Rosario.
“We have one of the best offenses in the league and we have shown it,” Gonzalez said, via the team’s website. “That’s one thing. We never quit. We can change the game in one inning. That’s basically what we did today.”
Gonzalez extended his hitting streak to 11 games. He’s hitting .378 over that stretch, and has seen his batting average go from .159 on May 1 to .255 entering play Wednesday.
Arraez, meanwhile, has been a pleasant surprise. The 22-year-old now has four games under his MLB belt and he’s hit safely in 7-of-12 at-bats. He also has two walks and has yet to strike out.
The Twins are now 32-16 and have increased their lead in the AL Central to 6 1/2 games over second-place Cleveland. Minnesota goes for the road sweep over the Angels at 8:07 p.m. Wednesday, with left-hander Martin Perez on the mound against right-hander Matt Harvey.
