The stress reaction in the shin of Twins All-Star third baseman Miguel Sano appears to be getting better every day, and his return might not be too far in the distance.
The Twins announced that Sano was able to hit baseballs off a tee on Monday and they’re hoping he’ll be taking full-fledged batting practice within a couple of days.
“If we can progress the baseball skills along, it’s just a matter of when we can get him out there to try to jog a little and hopefully get built up where he can get around the bases,” manager Paul Molitor said Monday. “Then maybe we can start thinking about how he might contribute. It’s getting closer to a day-to-day situation, but we’re not there yet.”
Sano got hurt when he smacked a foul ball off his shin during an at-bat on Aug. 18. Two days later he was placed on the disabled list.
The Twins have gone 9-6 in the 15 games without him.
Sano’s 28 home runs are tied with Brian Dozier for the team.
