Baseball reporter Jon Heyman reported last week that the Twins and Braves were finalizing a trade that would send Jaime Garcia to Minnesota.
That trade fell apart for whatever the reason – some reports suggest the health of the minor leaguer the Twins were going to send Atlanta was the problem – and now it’s not entirely clear if the Twins are still in the mix to acquire Garcia.
Heyman’s latest report from Monday morning explains the Garcia situation.
The Yankees see Garcia as someone who would be an upgrade over their current fifth starter, but the Braves are said to have six teams in the mix after the Twins deal fell apart. The Royals are known to have scouted Garcia but it isn’t clear if they are one of the six. The Twins are said to be still talking to the Braves, though it’s uncertain how likely they are to resurrect a deal there. Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports and MLB Network reported a medical situation with one of the other players in that deal scuttled that agreement.
Darren Wolfson reports that the Twins have also talked to the A’s about Sonny Gray, and Heyman says Gray could be traded before his next scheduled start Tuesday.
#MNTwins still talking to Braves about Garcia. But told their focus on other arms is equal or further along than w/ Garcia at this point.
