Rookie Danny Santana drove in a career-high five RBIs to lift the Minnesota Twins to an 8-0 win over the Houston Astros on Saturday afternoon at Target Field, according to MLB.com.
Right-handed pitcher Kyle Gibson (5-5) had another strong outing. He threw seven scoreless innings, scattering three hits, two walks and five strikeouts while allowing only one runner to reach second base, the Associated Press reports. And he induced 12 groundball outs, including the last nine batters he retired.
Santana had another big day at the plate. He hit his first career home run Friday night in the Twins’ 5-4 loss to the Astros, and followed it up Saturday afternoon with a career high four hits and five RBIs, said MLB.com.
The Twins got their first three runs in the second inning — two of them brought in by Santana on a single to left with the bases loaded. Astros pitcher Scott Feldman was forced from the game after only 1 2/3 innings, giving up three unearned runs on one hit and two walks.
Minnesota scored another four runs in the fourth against reliever Paul Clemens, two of them brought in by Santana on a double with one out.
Santana got his fifth RBI in the seventh on a two-out single.
The two teams wind up their weekend series on Sunday afternoon at Target Field. Game time is 1:10 p.m.
