When the Twins go up against the Oakland A’s Sunday afternoon, they’ll have one less up-and-coming batter thanks to an injury.
Designated hitter Miguel Sano sprained his right ankle during pre-game activities on Saturday’s game in California, rolling his ankle on an errant ball, the Star Tribune reports.
The paper quotes Twins manager Paul Molitor admitting, “We should have done a better job clearing the field.”
The slip-up (both literal and figurative) has removed Sano from the batter’s cage, but as CBS Sports notes, there are hopes he can bounce back in three to five days.
However, Twins General Manager Terry Ryan would not comment on whether the rookie slugger could end up on the disabled list, according to the Pioneer Press.
Despite the setback, Sano was able to play on Saturday; but his ankle continually worsened, and he ended up walking off the field on crutches due to swelling, FOX Sports says.
To add insult to injury, the Twins lost 2-3 Saturday, though won the night before 5-0.
The show will go on, of course – the team plays the A’s for the third time on Sunday at 3:05 p.m.
