The Minnesota Twins and Randy Dobnak have reportedly agreed on a five-year contract extension.
According to ESPN’s Jeff Passan, Dobnak’s contract is worth $9.25 million but has three option years at the end of the deal. Dobnak can make up to $29.75 million through three option years and possibly more through performance-based escalators.
The 26-year-old signed with the Twins as an undrafted free agent in 2019 and tore through the minor league system. Dobnak made his major league debut later that year and started the Twins’ Game 2 loss to the New York Yankees in the ALDS.
Dobnak has gone 8-5 with a 3.12 ERA in 19 career appearances (15 starts) for the Twins but struggled in the second half of last season. With three arbitration years remaining for Dobnak, the extension is surprising but is easy for the Twins to get out of after the first two seasons.
The right-hander has made the Opening Day roster for the Twins but will begin the season in the bullpen.
