Eddie Rosario is unlikely to return to the Twins lineup until after the All-Star break after the team placed him on the 10-day injured list Friday.
Rosario left Wednesday’s game against the Rays with a left ankle sprain. Minnesota was optimistic that he would avoid a stint on the injured list, but that optimism apparently faded about 48 hours after the injury.
The move is retroactive to June 27, so Rosario is eligible to return July 7, which is the date of Minnesota’s final game (vs. Texas) before the All-Star break.
Replacing Rosario on the active roster is infielder Ehire Adrianza, who has missed the last 10 games with abdominal issues.
Minnesota also sent pitcher Zack Littell back to Triple-A Rochester and called up pitcher Lewis Thorpe from Triple-A to help solidify the bullpen after the team used a boatload of arms in Thursday’s 18-inning loss to the Rays.
Rosario and first baseman C.J. Cron will find out Sunday if they’ll be among the reserves for the All-Star Game. Jorge Polanco was named the American League All-Star team’s starting shortstop.
