Mike Pelfrey, the injured Twins starter who was sent down to Class A Cedar Rapids for a rehab stint, will start Saturday against the Toronto Blue Jays.
Pelfrey is recovering from a strained back, and is eligible to come off the 15-day disabled list July 4, according to MLB.com.
In his start for the Kernels Monday, Pelfrey pitched six innings against Peoria, giving up two runs on two hits with six strikeouts.
Pelfrey told a Cedar Rapids-based sports website that he may have rushed his comeback from Tommy John surgery: “I came back really quick, Pelfrey said. “I struggled the early part of the year.”
Pelfrey isn’t exaggerating. He has struggled. In 14 starts this year, he’s 3-6, with a 6.11 ERA. His last win came back in May in a 4-2 win over Cleveland.
