The Twins enter the All-Star break with a disappointing 39-53 record, 12 games out of first place in the American League Central division.
With hopes of a better second half of the season, the Twins made a few moves following Sunday’s 10-4 win over the Yankees.
According to the FOX Sports North, outfielders Oswaldo Arcia and Chris Parmelee and infielder Eduardo Escobar have been optioned back to Triple-A Rochester.
“We’re shaking things up here, but the most important part is to get these kids right, because they’re our future,” manager Ron Gardenhire tells the Star Tribune. “This is what we’re counting on, and right now, they’re struggling.”
Arcia has struck out 11 of his last 13 at-bats, including seven straight.
“As the old saying goes: Right now, he can’t hit water falling out of a boat,” Gardenhire said of Arcia. “He needs some swings. He’s missing a lot of pitches.”
Per the Star Tribune, journeyman shortstop Doug Bernier and catcher Chris Herrmann will be called up from Rochester. Outfielder Chris Colabello could also get the call.
