The Twins opened their National League West Coast road trip with a 5-3 victory in San Diego on Tuesday night.
Kevin Correia went six innings and gave up three runs to pick up the victory. He started the game with four perfect innings, but San Diego got to him in the fifth as they strung together three runs on four hits to steal the lead at 3-2.
Minnesota rallied back, though. A wild pitch allowed Plouffe to score to even the score at 3 in the sixth.
Correia came back out and kept the Padres scoreless in the bottom of the sixth and his teammates put him in position to win the game when Josmil Pinto hit a sacrifice fly to score Eduardo Escobar with the go-ahead run.
The bullpen took over from there and Glenn Perkins picked up his 13th save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning.
Chris Parmelee hit his third homer of the season and Kurt Suzuki hit an inside-the-park home run to highlight the Twins offensive efforts.
Last Twin to hit an inside the park HR was Joe Mauer in 2007. Tonight, Kurt Suzuki – another catcher – hits one for Minnesota.

Trevor Plouffe was 2-4 with his 18th double of the season and Brian Dozier was 2-4 again.
The Twins and Padres continue their series on Wednesday night. Phil Hughes is on the mound for Minnesota against San Diego’s Tyson Ross. First pitch is scheduled for 8:10.
