The Twins’ starting rotation Nik Turley experiment has come to an end.
Turley took the mound Thursday night after a 5-hour rain delay, but his stint lasted just two outs. He gave up 6 hits and 5 runs (all earned) in the first inning, and was pulled before he could record a third out.
Shortly after the game, the Twins announced Turley was headed back down to the minors.
Twins option LHP Nik Turley to Class AAA Rochester, place IF Ehire Adrianza on disabled list. Will recall 2 pitchers Friday.

If you’re looking for a reason why he was sent down, his numbers in his three major league starts speak for themselves:
Worst ERA in Twins history (min. 3 starts):
16.39 Nik Turley
11.15 Jackie Collum
10.25 Adam Johnson
9.89 Brad Thomas
9.66 Sean Bergman— Aaron Gleeman (@AaronGleeman) June 22, 2017
Twins called up two arms (Trevor Hildenberger, and Dillon Gee) yesterday to join the rotation, which, clearly, continues to be a work in progress.
Twins have called up 2 RHPs: Dillon Gee, signed Thursday, and Rochester closer Trevor Hildenberger, a sidearmer. https://t.co/M09b8pGvGK
