Another free agent pitcher has fallen by the wayside for the Twins this offseason, with Madison Bumgarner signing with the Arizona Diamondbacks.
The Giants pitcher was one of the remaining aces left in the free agent pool after Gerrit Cole signed with the Yankees, Zack Wheeler with the Phillies, and Stephen Strasburg re-signed with Washington.
The Twins were reportedly “heavy suitors” for Bumgarner, though it was never made explicitly clear how “in” for him they were.
Nonetheless, he’s instead chosen to sign with the Diamondbacks for a reported $85 million over five years, with $15 million deferred.
If the Twins are going to dip their toes into free agency, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Dallas Keuchel are among those still available.
