The Seattle Mariners defeated the Minnesota Twins 6-2 Sunday afternoon at Target Field behind a strong outing by pitcher Felix Hernandez, the Star Tribune reports. Hernandez gave up two runs and seven hits while striking out five over eight strong innings.
Robinson Cano had four hits for the Mariners, who snapped a four-game losing streak with the win, but the Twins still won the series two games to one.
Trevor Plouffe gave the Twins a 2-0 lead in the third inning with a two-run single. But the Mariners scored three runs over the next two innings off starting pitcher Ricky Nolasco, who left in the fifth, according to the Associated Press. Seattle scored three more runs, while holding the Twins scoreless for the rest of the game.
The Twins open a two-game series at San Diego on Tuesday. Kevin Correia (1-5, 6.80) will start.
