A ninth-inning rally by the Twins fell short as they lost to the Texas Rangers 11-7 in Arlington Saturday afternoon.
Twins starter Mike Pelfrey allowed eight runs in just 3 2/3 innings, which is double the number of runs he allowed in his past four starts, MLB.com reports.
The Twins actually were leading 3-1 in the third inning, but the Rangers came back to tie it up in the bottom of the third, before scoring six runs in the fourth and two runs in the fifth.
The Twins made it exciting with a ninth-inning rally that scored four runs, but they couldn’t get any closer and lost their second game to the Rangers.
After a hot streak in May, the Twins have cooled off substantially in June, losing nine of its 12 games so far this month, including the last five in a row, the Star Tribune reports. They’re now second in the AL Central Division behind the Royals.
The Twins were without their RBI leader Torii Hunter, who is out for a two-game suspension, and Aaron Hicks was out due to injury.
But, the team’s got a big plan to fill the outfield gap. The Twins finish up the series Sunday with No. 1 prospect Byron Buxton making his Major League debut for Minnesota.
The Twins announced Saturday they’re bringing Buxton up from the AA Chattanooga.
