One bad inning cost the Minnesota Twins on Saturday as the Royals scored five runs in the fourth inning to win its second straight over Minnesota, 5-4 at Kauffman Stadium. The Royals will go for a sweep of the three-game series on Sunday. It was just last weekend that the Twins swept the Royals at Target Field, and the Royals are 5-0 since then.
Twins starter Kevin Correia gave up all five runs on five hits in the fourth inning, giving the Royals the lead for good.
Minnesota scored first in the second inning when Aaron Hicks walked with the bases loaded. Kurt Suzuki hit a solo homer in the fourth inning, and brought in two more runs in the fifth on a two-out single. Royals starter Bruce Chen allowed all four runs on eight hits and four walks.
But the Twins couldn’t muster any other action against Kansas City’s bull pen. Danny Duffy,Wade Davis and Greg Holland shut down the Minnesota bats over the final four innings.
The Twins dropped to 0-2 on their six-game road trip.
