The Minnesota Twins couldn’t get much going at the plate as they suffered a 3-1 loss to the Cleveland Indians on Wednesday night.
The Twins came into the game playing well, winning nine of their past 13 games and taking three straight series from American League division leaders. Their efforts were also bolstered from a solid start from Bailey Ober.
The right-hander entered Wednesday with a 3.55 ERA in his past seven starts and cruised through the first four innings. Ober ran into trouble in the fifth, allowing a two-run homer to Daniel Johnson to put Cleveland on the board.
The Indians padded the lead in the sixth on a groundout by Wilson Ramos, which was more than enough run support for Cleveland starter Eli Morgan.
Morgan entered the game with an ERA of 6.52 but silenced the Twins at the dish, throwing six shutout innings with two walks and eight strikeouts.
Although Jorge Polanco got the Twins on the board with an RBI groundout in the eighth, the Twins were limited to four singles and five walks on the night as Emmanuel Clase picked up his 17th save of the season.
Despite the loss, the Twins will go for the series victory on Wednesday afternoon at Target Field. Dan Pleasac will take the mound for the Indians while the Twins have yet to announce their starter for a 12:10 p.m. first pitch.
