It’s been hot in Texas the past four days, but we’re not talking about the 100-degree heat. We’re talking about the Minnesota Twins (76-48), who won all four games against the Rangers and left Arlington Sunday night with a 2.5-game lead in the AL Central.
Cleveland (75-51) split a four-game series in New York with the Yankees, setting the stage for the Twins to pull away as they’ll play the White Sox and Tigers in alternating series for a total of 13 straight games beginning Monday night at Target Field against the Sox.
The Indians, meanwhile, stay in New York for three games against the Mets, including matchups against All-Star pitchers Marcus Stroman and Noah Syndergaard.
The Twins led Sunday’s game 3-0 before the Rangers scored twice off starter Martin Perez in the fourth inning, then tied the game 3-3 on a solo home run by Shin Shoo Choo off Twins reliever Sam Dyson in the seventh.
Minnesota answered with a three-run triple by Jorge Polanco in the eighth to take a 6-3 lead, and Sergio Romo and Taylor Rogers pitched a clean final two innings to completed the sweep.
