The Cleveland Indians visit Target Field for the first time this season, the first of nine games against the Twins the rest of the way.
The Indians are just 1.5 games behind first-place Detroit in the American League Central standings with a 51-44 record, and riding a four-game winning streak. Cleveland also has a shot at a Wild Card spot, as they’re just 3 games out in that race.
Last year at this time, Cleveland was in a similar spot, but collapsed in the dog days of summer and finished fourth in the division.
The Twins, buried in the standings, once again have little to play for except for spoiling playoff dreams of other teams.
That mission starts tonight at 7:10. Mike Pelfrey (4-5, 5.55 ERA) pitches for Minnesota. Left-hander Scott Kazmir (5-4, 4.60) starts for Cleveland.
