The last thing the Twins need is for the flu bug to wipe out their hot start to the season.
In an effort to avoid catching whatever sicknesses are plaguing the Boston Red Sox, the Twins called ahead to have the Tigers fumigate the visitors’ clubhouse at Comerica Park in advance of the three-game series between the Twins and Tigers that starts today at 12:10 p.m., according to reporter Evan Drellich.
Red Sox players up and down the roster and staff were hit with the flu and other illnesses during their series in Detroit Thursday-Sunday.
According to the Boston Herald, it’s three different viruses: the flu, a illness featuring flu-like symptoms and one that causes upper-respiratory problems.
Today’s Twins-Tigers game will be an off day for Joe Mauer. The middle of the Twins order has Jorge Polanco batting third, Miguel Sano fourth and Jason Castro fifth. Chris Gimenez is starting at first base in place of Mauer, who doesn’t hit lefties well. Left-hander Matt Boyd starts for Detroit against Twins lefty, Hector Santiago.
Here’s the batting order for the Twins.
- Brian Dozier, 2B
- Robbie Grossman, DH
- Jorge Polanco, SS
- Miguel Sano, 3B
- Jason Castro, C
- Chris Gimenez, 1B
- Eddie Rosario, LF
- Byron Buxton, CF
- Danny Santana, RF
Mauer, Max Kepler and Eduardo Escobar are available off the bench.
