The Minnesota Twins announced today that contracts with every player on the 2014 40-man roster have been finalized. 13 players were already locked up, so the team essential announced finalized deals with 27 players, according to 1500 ESPN.
The pitchers include: Logan Darnell, Samuel Deduno, Scott Diamond, Kyle Gibson, Edgar Ibarra, Kris Johnson, Trevor May, Ryan Pressly, Brooks Raley, Caleb Thielbar, Michael Tonkin and Vance Worley.
The positional players include: Chris Colabello, Brian Dozier, Eduardo Escobar, Pedro Florimon, Jorge Polanco, Chris Herrmann, Josmil Pinto, Danny Santana, Kennys Vargas, Oswaldo Arcia, Aaron Hicks, Max Kepler, Chris Parmelee and Alex Presley.
The 27 names above were considered pre-arbitration eligible players.
Brian Dozier received the biggest raise. The Pioneer Press reports that Dozier received a $42,500 raise to increase his 2014 salary to $540,000. The starting second baseman hit 18 home runs in his second big league season in 2013.
After posting a dismal 7.21 ERA and spending the majority of last season in the minors, Vance Worley received a microscopic raise (in the baseball world) of $2,500. Worley, who was last year’s Opening Day starter for the Twins, will make $527,500 this season – if he’s in the majors.
The 2014 Major League Baseball minimum salary is $500,000. That’s $10,000 more than it was last year.
Meanwhile, if Bovada is as accurate this year as they were last year the Twins are going to lose 90 games for a fourth consecutive season. Last year, the sports handicapping website put the Twins over/under win total at 67.5. Minnesota finished with 66 victories. This year’s Bovada projection puts the Twins win total at 70.5.
