We’re only eight games into the 2013 season, but the Twins may already have a shortstop controversy on their hands.
Who should be the everyday starter: Pedro Florimon or Eduardo Escobar?
The Twins Rubes blog makes a case for Escobar, especially with leadoff hitter Aaron Hicks struggling.
Last night, Escobar got the start in Kansas City (a 7-4 Twins loss) and made the most of it, going three for four, with a homer and two RBIs.
So far, he has six hits in 11 at-bats. Yes, we know it’s way too early to actually make such a change — it reeks of April panic — but so far, so good for Escobar.
Florimon? Actually, he hasn’t been a terrible No. 9 hitter so far, batting a respectable .417, with four walks.
Another idea? Twins Rubes has it: “If both of these guys keep hitting and getting on base, maybe the debate becomes whether or not Brian Dozier should be the everyday second baseman.”
Over at MLB.com, manager Ron Gardenhire hints we may see more of Escobar in the near future: “I want to make sure everybody gets involved,” he said. “‘We’ll mix it up and try to score more runs.”
