While the Twins are stuck in baseball’s basement with a 24-51 record, they could be the talk of a lot of trade rumors as Major League Baseball approaches its Aug. 1 trade deadline.
Ervin Santana is 2-7 with a 4.64 ERA this season, but the Twins’ right-hander is projected to be one of the top targets for contending teams looking for starting pitching, according to the Boston Globe‘s Nick Cafardo.
“He’s the one guy out there who could be a sure thing in the middle of the rotation,” an American League assistant general manager told Cafardo, via ESPN. “Teams like Boston, Toronto, Baltimore need that guy.”
Cafardo mentions Twins infielders Eduardo Nunez and Trevor Plouffe as players with some trade value, too.
Santana is due $13.5 million per year through 2018.
The Twins are back in action Tuesday night with the start of a three-game series against the White Sox.
