After back-to-back wins in Cleveland, the Twins couldn’t pull out a third victory Sunday afternoon, falling 8-2 at Progressive Field.
The Twins came into the game with the upper hand in the series, having beaten the Indians 9-3 Friday and 7-4 Saturday.
Minnesota looked good at the start when Brian Dozier hit a home run in the first inning, his fourth homer this season.
The Indians responded with a run of their own, tying the game 1-1 at the end of the first.
But a bad fourth inning left the Twins reeling and put the Indians ahead. Cleveland scored five runs in the fourth, and two in the fifth, to take an 8-1 lead.
Twins pitcher Trevor May gave up six runs on nine hits. Ryan Pressly replaced May in the fifth inning, and allowed two more runs to score.
Michael Tonkin took the mound next, and then J.R. Graham closed out the game.
Indians pitcher Danny Salazar had 11 strikeouts in seven innings on the mound, matching his career record, MLB.com reports.
Joe Mauer batted in an RBI in the ninth, bringing the score to 8-2.
The Twins are now 18-14 overall. The Twins have a day off before traveling to Detroit for a three-game series against the Tigers, beginning Tuesday evening.
