Oregon State showcased its potent lineup in an 8-1 win over the Minnesota Gophers in Game 1 of their best-of-three NCAA Super Regional series on Friday.
Leading the way for the Beavers, who boast a lineup featuring two of the top 20 picks in this week’s MLB Draft, was Twins draft pick Trevor Larnach, who went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, double and three RBI.

Minnesota selected Larnach with the 20th overall pick on Monday, not long after Oregon State shortstop Nick Madrigal was taken fourth overall by the White Sox.

Oregon State left-handed ace Luke Heimlich dominated on the mound, tossing 8 2/3 innings. he allowed just one run on seven hits and struck out nine. The controversial lefty is 16-1 on the season with a school record 151 strikeouts.
Heimlich is one of the best pitchers in the country but was not drafted for a second year in a row, likely being blacklisted by MLB teams because he pleaded guilty as a 15-year-old in 2012 to a felony charge of of child molestation.
Minnesota needs to win Saturday and Sunday to advance to the College World Series, and one more loss will end their season.
Game 2 starts at 8:30 p.m. Saturday and will again be televised on ESPN2.
