Doug Bernier isn’t a well-known Minnesota Twin, but the troubled Alex Rodriguez knows who Bernier is.
On Monday, A-Rod was suspended by MLB through the 2014 season for his role in the Biogenesis scandal.
The 211 game ban imposed on Rodriguez is the longest PED related ban in MLB history.
Bernier, a journeyman infielder, played with Rodriguez during Yankees’ spring training from 2009-2011.
“He was always nice to me,” Bernier said of Rodriguez to the Pioneer Press. “He was respectful, knew my name. I didn’t have much of a relationship with him. I was just there for spring training.”
Twins closer Glen Perkins tells the Pioneer Press that he doesn’t have sympathy for any of the players that got caught.
“It’s frustrating when you think about the fact those guys cheated and won games for their team when they weren’t playing by the rules,” he said.
