We have all heard the saying “April showers bring May flowers.” Well in regards to the Major League Baseball schedule April showers could bring summer scheduling headaches for the Minnesota Twins.
It doesn’t have quite the same ring, but this week’s weather forecast could put a serious damper on the Twins series with the Los Angeles Dodgers.
There isn’t a lot that ties the two teams together, outside of the 1965 World Series when the Dodgers beat the Twins in seven games. LA’s return to Minnesota could be impacted by the weather and it threatens to really complicate the schedule for the two teams, sits its the Dodgers’ only trip to Minnesota this year.
The National Weather Service is calling for nearly unplayable weather conditions all three days of the series. Sunday’s rain and cool temperatures already cost the Twins their series finale with Detroit.

According to the forecast, rain and snow are expected at Target Field in downtown Minneapolis Tuesday evening for the series opener. To make matters worse game temperatures are expected to be in the mid-30’s with a north wind expected around 15 mph.
More rain is expected Wednesday evening, according to the National Weather Service, and evening temperatures are again expected in the mid to upper 30’s.
Thursday might be the best chance for baseball. The high temperature is expected to be around 47 degrees with cloudy conditions.
So if the rain prevents the Twins and Dodgers from playing one or more of their games, what do the teams do for getting the games rescheduled?
1500 ESPN reports the Twins and Dodgers have very few common open dates. According to the report, May 19 might be the most likely day the teams would be able to play in either a single game or a double-header, depending on the week’s weather.
The Twins have that day off after completing a series with Seattle and prior to heading to San Diego for a two-game series with the Padres. The Dodgers would be between a series in Arizona and one against the Mets in New York.
If they play on Tuesday Zach Grienke is expected to take the mound for the Dodgers against Kyle Gibson, but stay tuned.
