Bill Murray may be part-owner of the St. Paul Saints, but it’s Groundhog’s Day at Target Field. With Terry Ryan back as general manager, the Web has been flooded with opinions, which offer mostly-positive reviews.
Let’s start with the Star Tribune’s Jim Souhan, who argues the “interim” label should be ignored. He says the Twins are truly Ryan’s team.
Pioneer Press writer Tom Powers says Ryan’s return was the right move, no matter what the reasons were. He — like many others — were truly shocked when the Pohlad’s pulled the trigger on ex-GM Bill Smith. As he put it:“I always thought you had to rob an orphanage on Christmas Eve to get canned by the Twins.”
There are some detractors out there, especially Knuckleballs blogger Jim Crikket, who argues Ryan was asked back simply to slash payroll, and not much else.
So what will Ryan do first? Well, he’ll try to figure out which free agents to sign, but more importantly — he’ll evaluate the medical staff, which dealt with way too many injuries in 2011.
What do you think? Are you glad Ryan is back, or should the Twins make more changes? Let us know!
