Twins pitcher Samuel Deduno is going to make it tough for Ron Gardenhire to keep him out of the starting rotation.
The right-hander tossed five shutout innings to lead the Dominican Republic to a 3-0 win over Puerto Rico in the World Baseball Classic championship game last night.
He also cruised past Team USA last week. In three starts at the Classic he allowed just one run in 12 innings while striking out 17. He only walked five batters all tournament — an encouraging sign since he struggled with his control last season.
Jim Souhan writes that Deduno could be the savior for the Twins rotation.
