Make it six straight wins for the Twins as they clobbered the Tigers 13-5 Friday night in Detroit.
C.J. Cron clubbed a three-run homer – his 23rd of the season – to help fuel a 14-hit attack by the Twins. They scored four runs in the first inning, two in the second, two in the third and four more in the fourth.
Cron’s opposite-field homer highlighted the fourth inning. It’s his third three-run homer in his last five games. Jorge Polanco and Nelson Cruz each had three hits while Cron, Max Kepler, Eddie Rosario all had two hits.
The Twins are 11-3 in their last 14 games and now lead the Indians in the AL Central by 4.5 games.
Kyle Gibson did not give the. Twins a good start. He was rocked for four runs on 10 hits and was pulled after five innings. But the bullpen was strong. Tyler Duffey struck out the side in the sixth and Trevor May used an overpowering fastball to strike out the side in the seventh.
Sam Dyson gave up a homer to Ronny Rodriguez in the eighth, and Sergio Romo pitched a clean ninth to close out the blowout victory.
